Napa Valley Get-Away Dessert at Tra Vigne

Recently had a late night dessert at Tra Vigne in Napa Valley near St. Helena. It was great. There was hardly anyone there and the deserts were great. My friend ordered specialty scotch and seemed pleased with the waitors knowledge, banter and reccomendations on the drink. It was empty and it felt like an Italian Villa
in the country. Tra Vigne is my favorite restaurnt in the Napa Area.

Tra Vigne means "among the vines". It is very nicely designed destination restaurant . Care to the gardens and details are refined, orchestrated, sophisticated and comfortable. The waiters are cheerful and unusually willing to stop and talk with you. Lends to the vacation get-away experience.

I like to stop at Tra Vigne for late lunches and sit outside on the walled courtyard patio. Outdoor dining with the fountain, artistic touches, casual elegant mediteraen style gardens, and delicious food is my idea of a picnic.

Tra Vigne is a classic. It started in the eighties. I miss the original beaded lamps, but the handblown yellow curvy glass lamps with tiny air bubbles in the glass create nice soft light. The high ceilings, over sized foreign prints, wooden bar display, and open feeling remind me of an Italiean villa, all the more lending to the feeling of having escaped or been on vacation.

I have never had a bad meal here. Every dish, every sauce, every garnish, every flavor is well thought out with deep, flavorful determination. The menu is Italian /Californian / Medittanean with rabbit, homade mozeralla, hand cut pastas, stone milled polenta, homemade duck prosciutto, marinated olives, delicious pasteries and deserts.

Reservations are mandatory for prime time dining, and a wait might be part of the experience, hence I like off peak visits like late night desserts and late afternoon lunches.
